Yoga and Music Therapy

One of the hallmarks of children on the spectrum is to have difficulty with sensory integration, and this is where meditation can be beneficial. It will help kids to self-soothe, self-regulate, build confidence, and more effectively socialize. Yoga can also relieve discomfort, and this in turn can relieve stereotypical / self-stimulating habits.

Mirroring is a technique I use in my music therapy practice with children on the autism spectrum (and others as well!). Music making activities including imitation and rhythm have the capacity to engage brain areas that are likely to produce “mirror neurons,” making music activities especially useful for the treatment of developmental disabilities and autism.
